The Challenge with Traditional Piano Lessons Unlike Simply Music, traditional piano methods are “reading-based” programs – the curriculum begins with reading music. A student’s success is based on his or her ability to decode and translate written music into action with their fingers on the piano. Unfortunately, this process creates a learning “bottle neck,” typically resulting in a slow, unrewarding experience. Students often fail to develop a love for the instrument or the process. How Simply Music Works. Simply Music is a “playing-based” program, which is much more natural than the reading-based approach. With Simply Music, students “learn by doing” – they begin by playing songs. Students play rich-sounding, sophisticated contemporary, classical, blues and accompaniment songs – right from the very start. Formal music reading is delayed initially, though subtle elements are introduced at the beginning stages. Students quickly become comfortable playing the instrument first, experiencing the pure joy of playing music and keeping interest high.
Creating More Well-Rounded Players. All things being equal, Simply Music students typically become more well rounded players overall in less time and with less effort than students in traditional methods. This includes having stronger music reading skills.
